Arne was my grandfather's brother. My mother has many letters, written in Norwegian between her father Svend Opstad and his family. Being unable to read the language, I assumed they were from his family still in Norway.
Svend Svendson Opstad married Mary Lydia Fletcher 19 March 1929 in Elko, Nevada, USA Gramma told me how she and Grandpa met. She was on a date with her beau, and her beau had invited Svend as a blind date for another girl to double with them. The other girl teased Svend so terribly about his Norwegian accent that finally Svend took the girl home, dropped off his friend, and spent the rest of the evening with Mary.
